Using the Dear Jane CD with Electric Quilt (EQ)
This program includes all the block patterns to make the original sampler quilt, plus over 300 more! That's a total of over 550 patterns that can be printed in any size. Read author Brenda Papadakis sewing instructions for each block. Brenda has added 12 lessons that will take you from selecting fabric all the way through binding your project. She also has included things like alternate ways to do half square triangles more easily. They start with choosing fabrics, how to do applique and reverse applique, all the way through how to actually quilt your project. And just about every other task in between has it's own tutorial. The software also has a multitude of other ideas that do not show up in the book _ like making Jane placemats, table runners, or wall hangings. There are also a broad variety of border ideas, not just the triangles shown in the book, and there are pictures of many completed Jane projects. In addition, you can learn about Jane and her quilt and watch video interviews with Brenda Papadakis. Dear Jane software includes an installation CD and 264 page user manual with full color gallery quilts, 7 lessons, as well as how-to instructions for program features. Convinced? You can order this program directly from Electric Quilt for $49.95. Please note: Dear Jane blocks are copyrighted by Brenda Papadakis. This is a stand alone program: EQ is NOT needed to use this software. In fact, there are abilities such as Fitted Borders and the Random Recolor Tool which are on the wish list for EQ6. To use the DJ blocks and fabrics in EQ, you need to link the DJ library to EQ5 using the directions below. This information is also available in the manual on pages pages 120-123. 1. Open EQ 2. Click on File, then on Preferences 3. Click on the Directories tab in the upper right 4. Click on Add 5. Give your link a name, such as DJ Blocks, or DJ Fabrics, etc. 6. Make sure that the box in item two reflects the type of library you are linking 7. Click on OK 8. Again, in the Directories tab, highlight the link you just added. To the left it will say "not found" 9. Next click on Modify 10. This will bring up an explorer type screen. Click on the proper hard drive, directory, etc. until you get to your DJ library directory. Highlight the library sub folder, then click OK. This will change the "not found" notation to a green check mark. 11. Click OK at the bottom of the preferences screen when you are done linking everything you want to link. What else can you link? 1. Block Libraries
2. Fabric Libraries
3. User Fabric Libraries
4. Palette Libraries
5. Layout Libraries
Block A-1 A member of the EQ mailing list noticed that block A1 was not drawn exactly as it should be. The inner pinwheel is not a perfect square. Rather, it is an octagonal shape, making the points not quite match. Linda Franz, author of Quilted Diamonds, has put the octagon version of A_1 (and a lot of other pictures!) on her Webshots at http://community.webshots.com/user/homebays
