Silk Thread

Here is the silk thread you have been looking for. YLI silk threads are high quality 100% pure filament silk with no broken or spun strands.  Strong and durable yet very fine, this silk thread is available in over 60 colors in two weights.  Snap spools conveniently hold thread ends to avoid unraveling.  The 100 wt silk is very fine and will disappear when used in appliqué.  The 50 wt is perfect for embroidery.  Click on the hyperlinked color number to order for $6.00 a spool.

Tips: If you are using this thread in your machine, you should use a Universal 80/12 needle for machine stitching 50 wt silk.  For 100 wt silk, you should use a Microtex 70 or an Embroidery 75/11.  Use Select or Heirloom Cotton in the bobbin.

For hand stitching use a size 10 Milliners or Sharps needle and a short length of thread. Slip the thread back thorough the eye again forming a loop around the eye.  Every few stitches, tug at this loop to get the tail to slip about another inch along it's length so the same piece of thread isn't going through the needles eye, making it more likely to fray.  For more information, see YLI's Thread of Truth brochure.

This thread has a slight sheen so the spools photograph slightly lighter than they are in real life.
